The film has two heroines one is Sindhu played by Suhasini and the other is Bhairavi played by Sulakshana. As the film revolves around a musician the music director Illayaraja had felt that it will be apt to make Yesudas sing all the songs. The song sung by Chitra got her the national award and Suhasini for her performance got the Silver Lotus Award. The story line of the film revolves around a musician who has a loving but non music knowledge wife and so he takes solace with one of his fans who is his equal. The another track of the story is that the musicians wife cannot bear a child and when Sindhu comes to know about that from the doctor to whom she goes for aborting her child she decides to give birth to the child and give it to JKB and Bhairavi. After 20 years of the release of this movie, Balachander showed the followup life of the child in a teleserial named Sahana
