Reva i A/C Review
Reva is the first Indian Electric Car with the incredible benefits of no pollution and being environment friendly mode of transport. Electric cars will get priority in the recent times when we are facing steep oil prices and the move towards environmental friendly energy sources.
This is a small 2 door hatch back measuring 2.6-metre long, 1.3-metre wide and 1.5-metre high. Weighing in at 750 kg, the car can accommodate two adults of average height in the front and two children in the rear. You can also double up and fold the seats if you want luggage space. Headroom and legroom is cramped the rear seat is only large enough to seat kids or hold a small amount of luggage but you can fold up the back seats if only two persons are travelling. Maximum weight the car can hold is 227 kgs.
The car is a little pricey ( infact it is costlier than a Maruti 800 and and Alto with AC, for that matter), not all can afford the car and also has limitations of space and the distance it can travel.
The car can travel at a maximum speed of 80 kmh and can travel about 80 km / 50 miles on full charged battery. The car battery uses 9 units of electricity for a full charge and it comes to about 40 paise per km. and there is a low battery warning light and so you will be able to estimate the distance you can travel.Four-wheel dual circuit hydraulic brakes gives you the best of stopping powers when you need them. Since there are minimum moving parts, minimum maintenance is needed.
You just have to turn the key to start the car, disengage the parking brake, turn the control knob to the forward position and accelerate.It is best at navigating traffic and its responsive steering is very light but needs some getting used to.Ride quality is not very good on the bumpy roads which we tend to see in most parts of India.
You can personalise your own colour schemes for the car. The cars exteriors are highlighted by prominent wheel arches, and smooth body sites and bonnet. The rear lamp clusters are placed at an angle makes the edges look even while the head lamps gives them a sharp look.
The Renault Badge is placed prominently on the grill and looks very stylish.
Ther are some good features like Climate Control Seat (CCS) and remote controlled AC which provide comfort to passengers. Body Coloured bumpers and mirrors enhances the REVAis style quotient and looks too.
The absence of an engine or other mechanical parts allows for a large crush zone in case of a frontal collision and the spare tyre, designed to be at the front, further helps in reducing impact. so actually it turns out to be safer than most others.
