Australia (2008) Review I read several of the reviews and was perplexed that so many people hated it. I suppose what it boils down to is whether you have a pre-disposition to like the elements that make up this film. I am a fan of the "old movies" and there is definitely a large bit of that style in this flick. The second element is slightly more modern and its not subtle. Its the wild beauty of the Australian outback and all that that entails. Me, Ive always been fascinated with the Aboriginal mythology that I first saw in Croc. Dundee. The movie was long, but for me the time flew by.
The story line, though somewhat predictable delivered the moments that caused me to get ever so watery eyed. I like to immerse myself in the movies I see and imagine what it would have been like to walk in the shoes of the characters on screen. Thus, for me to like a movie, I have to like what happens in the movie. This movie illustrates the hardship that both the natural elements, local corrupt politics and world war places on relationships.
The actors delivered and the cinematography was breathtaking.
I consider it to be worth seeing in the theaters.
