Product: Olive Pad VT100, India's first Android 3G Tablet

Review: Featured packed Olive Pad: good Travel Companion
Review By: vk    Review Date: 26 Aug 2010

At first sight, you will think "Wow! The OlivePad is so small, I can easily carry it around in my handbag or even in my trousers pocket!" Yes, the OlivePad is small and light, and yes, it will fit in your handbag or trousers pocket but you need to remember that it is there – imagine if you sit down with the OlivePad in your trousers packet...ouch!...the glass front is likely to crack.

The OlivePad does look like a fragile device, as most tablets do. It is, in fact, smaller than the iPad with a 7" screen with touch display, but still has good viewing capabilities. The clarity is good too, with a 800x480 pixel resolution. Touch screen typing is smooth and easy. Since it is very slim, the OlivePad is easy to carry around.

Fragile in features it definitely is not! The powerful OlivePad operates on a 3240 mAhLi-Polymer battery and has a 600MHZ processor & Qualcomm MSM7227 chipset. It comes with Android 2.1 already loaded, which is a great feature. In fact, it operates much like an Android-enabled cell phone! Applications and games, images, etc can all be downloaded. It also has the Android music player which can be associated easily with Windows Media player. The OlivePad supports Stereo Bluetooth. The 3MP camera supports VGA video recording, has a digital zoom feature and various modes as in a digital camera. File formats for video can be read with MPEG4 and 3GP files. Best of all, you can use the OlivePad to make calls! For responding to calls, though, you need a hands-free kit.

As for using the OlivePad on the move, it is an ideal companion. Due to Wi-Fi connectivity and already installed applications, you can get access to emails as well as Facebook, Twitter and GTalk. It even has GPS and by linking it to Google Maps, you can never get lost in your travels!

For work, the OlivePad comes with what is called DataViz applications, which means you can make and save Word documents and spreadsheets. The usual traditional features of calculator and calendar are very much incorporated in the OlivePad.

It is the price which may have you second-guessing whether or not to buy the OlivePad: in the range between Rs.20,000/- and Rs.25,000/-, you can possibly get a larger screen netbook with similar or even better features.
