| | The best part about The Sanjay Gandhi National Park is it's proximity to the city. That makes it easily accessible, visible and great hang out place. It is not possible to go and visit a national park every now and then. But if it is closer from where you stay, then you can visit it whenever you have time. Especially for kids for whom such visits are educational and somewhat help to calm their curiosity.
The Sanjay Gandhi National Park is one of the best visited, well known tourist destinations in Mumbai, Maharashtra. People from all over the world pay a visit to this park, for its richness and bio – diversity. Thousands of various species of flora and fauna are found here. Nature enthusiasts flock here for admiring and getting to know more about these species.
This National park is located within the borders of the city and there are many ways to reach this place. One can reach this place by road, rail or by air. The closest airport is the Santacruz domestic airport. By road one can reach here by taking the Western Express Highway, Mumbai and this park is just outside the Borivli flyover. Thankfully there are major signboards everywhere on the highway for one's convenience. Many buses ply on this route and hence traveling and reaching this place is real easy. By train, one can always alight on Borivli Station and reach out this place.
The Borivli National Park has wide range of attractions. It is a great informational and appealing travel destination for people of all age groups. Many rock climbing and trekking trails are present here for the adventure sports enthusiasts.
The entry fee to this park is minimal around 20 – 30 rupees. This place shelters a wide range of animal and plant species and the park showcases a scenic and encompassing, vivid picture of the beauty that nature adorns here. The tiger and the lion safaris are quite famous and if you are lucky enough, you may get brushed off closely enough with the mighty king himself.
There doesn't seem to be any danger with regards to the safari as the buses that carry us have huge iron mesh fixed on the windows. The buses wait at the point when you come right in front of the animals, letting you take some time getting a better view of them. One can spot white tigers, lions and few other animals on this safari.
The train that is an added attraction in this park, called the Vanrani, takes you for a ride all along the park, where one gets to see a panoramic view of the jungle. The train passes over few tunnels, and the Deer park. It's really good to see animals in their natural habitat, rather than the zoo.
One can also visit Kanheri caves which are in the park itself. You get to buy a ticket for the trip to Kanheri caves and one can also buy a book which is a suggested guide that provides detail information about the caves. This book comes out handy while strolling around the caves.
