Its free to download and install and it wont nag you to register. Having said that it is almost useless if you dont pay for the license. It will allow you to recover only files of length < 64 KB and preview deleted photos. Most of your documents have size greater than this limit. The free version of this software can only be used for evaluation. Many features (apart from searching and creation of disk images) are disabled in demo mode.
The Good:
1) Easy to use
2) Supports most file systems commonly in use.
3) The feature to save your search results for later use.
4) Sector level searching is very useful and most of the time you would be using it.
5) RAID support
The bad:
1) Practically useless in demo mode. (A 5 day or 10 sessions or 120 minutes trial version would have been useful).
Notes:
1) If you have an old PC with less RAM many deleted files on your hard disk, this program may hang. Here the program is not at fault, its the PCs configuration. It requires a lot of free memmory to display the search results. Sorting the search results may also cause your PC to hang. (It hung on my P-III, 128 MB RAM, XP computer.)
2) Because operating systems continuosly write to the disk, some files may not be recoverable. Here again the program is not at fault.
Overall you have to pay for good programs and this is one of them.
