Review: High Speed Mobile Internet
Review By: sasidharakurup v r    Review Date: 23 Sep 2009

Tata Photon + is the mobile broadband service provided by TATA. It provides path breaking internet facility to the home based users and business users. It is one of the best mobile high speed internet services available in the market with a speed of 3.1 Mbps. They are claiming that it is 20 tomes faster than the current wireless technology. The 3.1 Mbps speed is available for downlink only. The uplink speed is approximately 1.8 Mbps. The extra added advantage of this device is that a memory slot of 2 GB is also available in the TATA Photon + modem device. So we can use it as a pen drive for storage purposes and as a modem for surfing the internet. Also it is slim in design as a pen drive which adds as an advantage while considering the portability. It is compatible with operating systems like Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Vista and Mac OS.

The negative part of this service is that the monthly rental to be paid is very high. The basic plan starts with Rs.500 for using 0.5 GB and Rs.2/MB is the charge for additional usage. Even though the speed is claiming to be 3.1 Mbps, the actual speed can vary depending on the range available, number of simultaneous users in the same area etc. So if you want only browsing the webpage's at a high speed Tata Photon + is the best device for you. If you have a lot to download then it's better to opt some other way.

Tata Teleservices Limited (TTSL) has introduced the new Tata Indicom Photon+, its new High Speed Internet Access (HSIA) service, the next generation technology for Hi speed wireless Internet connectivity solution. With the history of Tata Teleservices Limited, I don't think there should be any second thoughts about the efficiency of the product. Tata Indicoms Photon+ service allows users to have access to Wireless Internet at never before speeds, where ever they are.

Tata Indicoms Photon+ being a wireless service can be installed & activated very quickly to give unmatched high speed internet access.

The service comes with a USB Modem and Router. The company claims that Photon+ offers data rates up to 3.1 Mbps, which is 20times faster than other existing wireless connections. Photon+ is compatible with both laptops as well as desktops. Good news for Mac users, it offers easy ‘self installation' with LAN/WLAN connectivity and OS support for Windows 2000/XP/Vista and Mac OS X as well.
Also, adding a touch of elegance and pride, the Photon+ dongle is very sleek and stylish.
Also, the tariff plans are quite reasonable for this quality of service.
Its just Rs. 1500 per month, which I think is quite reasonable given the value we get for it. The router is a slightly high, 3500 and activation at 1000.
Overall, a very great product by Tata. All I would say is, keep the good work going!!!

Finally the Tata launches Photon+ something that makes a difference. Most of these products have poor signals and coverage, like the Reliance. The Tata Indicom is much better you get signal mostly everywhere, however net speeds is not quite preferred.
The new Photon+ has ‘self installation' with LAN/WLAN connectivity and OS support. This OS support is for Windows2000/XP/Vista and Mac OS X.
The Photon+ is accessible using two devices — the Router and USB Modem. The routers helpful for multiple users in small and medium businesses (SMB) and business enterprises which is configured with an in-built modem and has Wi-Fi capabilities. The USB Modem that can be directly plugged into a computer, for individual users.

This service is available Bangalore, Chennai, Jaipur, Mumbai, Jammu &Kashmir & North East States.

The USB Modem is available in Mumbai and the router is available at a one-time activation of Rs 1,000, while the tariff plan begins from Rs 299 to Rs. 1250.

Tata Teleservices (TTML) has announced its new High Speed Internet Access (HSIA) wireless solution called Photon+.

The company claims that Photon+ is 20 times faster than the existing mobile wireless
technology offering data rates up to 3.1 Mbps. This is compatible with both laptops as well as desktops. Photon+ is accessible via both Routers and USB Modems this would cater to both business segment as well as consumers.

It offers dual compatibility between HSIA and CDMA 1X coverage/mode.

The best part in the Photon+ is that it offers easy ‘self installation' with LAN/WLAN connectivity and OS support for Windows 2000/XP/Vista and Mac OS X. So this is a plus point for all Mac users.

I can't write much about its connection and speed, but the company claims for faster e-mail access and file transfers, slicker presentations, and better experience of audio and video streaming and so on.

This is also available in Mumbai with a one-time installation charge of Rs.3500, while the tariff plan begins from Rs 299 to Rs. 1250.
