The name Sigree means food cooked in iron pot, and this name intrigued us and made us visit this place. A very huge and spacious restaurant. One could fine low seating arrangement that will let you sit with your legs stretched in a relaxed way. The ambience is so good and it gives the feel that you are transformed to that region instantly.

The best place to have a buffet northwest frontier lunch or dinner. Though this is a veg and non-veg restaurant, me being a staunch vegetarian tried out the veg dishes. One can have both fruit juices (fresh juices made of fruits of that season). If you are a soup lover then you can try out the shorbas. The sweet and sour chaat was a great hit amongst the kids of our house. They liked it so much. Never have I tasted such soft Naans or Rumali Rotis. The entire platter went off in a jiffy and we had to order another. The briyani smelled so aromatic and cooked well too. The deserts that they serve also are so mouth watering be it maupua orbe it choclate brownie.

Dont miss it if you wish to take your family or friends for a great treat.

On the 5th floor of Kwality Inn Aruna, Sterling Road, Nungambakkam, Sigree promises a tandoori delight to north-indian food buffs especially kabab maniacs. The ambience is contemporary complete with the perfect lighting and soft music playing in the background.

Sigree has always been my colleagues its-time-for-a-lunch-treat joint because not only is it close to my office but it also gives them ample scope to lighten my wallet should they please.

Their buffet service is worth a try - the starters are a flood of kababs. For the plant lovers, it could range from paneer tikka, aloo tikki to mixed vegetarian kababs. The non vegetarians are treated to chicken tikka, chicken hariyali, seekh kabab and sometimes a fish tikka as well.

Aloo tikki was requested for repeat servings several times over - light and crisp on the outside and soft on the inside with the mint chutney as its best friend. Chicken was well flavoured, lightly crisp and very juicy on the inside. It would be unfair if I did not mention the softness of the paneer, definitely one of the best around Chennai.

On the main course, there was vegetarian pulao, bhindi kali mirch (ladies finger pepper fry), mixed vegetable, Gosht Biriyani (Mutton biriyani), Gosht Roganjosh, Chicken in hyderabadi style - with the regular accompaniments, flavoured curd, salads et al. Rice well cooked and delicately spiced goes well with their side dishes. The variety at the main course is limited in comparison to the starters. But for someone who does not relish kababs, the buffet will be disappointer. The desserts had mixed fruits, kheer, hot jalebis and ice cream - again not much variety here either. Liquor is served on request.
