Being an ardent fan of AR R., I always look forward to his forthcoming music. With great expectations, I bought this album - Dilli 6. He hasnt disappointed me. We all know it takes a while for his music to catch on, but music lovers know it will all be worth the wait.
ARR has taken the Indian film music to another level. He has brought world music to India and taken our music to the world. This album is a perfect all rounder that shows AR R. is highly versatile and that his imaginations have no bounds. The album has pleasing compositions that suits all ears.
The first track is “Masakalli" that grabs your attention right away. ARR always experiments with new voices, sounds and styles and this track is no exception. Mohit chauhan has sung the song and his rendition gives the song a feel good, light weight factor. It is a free flowing song that probably will take you to the streets of Delhi. Play it loud and feel good.
"Bhor Bhaye" is a treat to classical hindustani fans. Shreya has rendered this song with Ustad Bade Ghulam Ali khan beautifully. It is a typical hindustani number but makes you want to perform classical dance (that is, if you are trained). It is a short track but infused with traditional tablas and harmonium. No mix-ups and is pure classic on the rocks..
Then there is "Noor" rendered by Big B and his fans will love the track. A very short shayeri style rendition. Not a song but worth listening, you Big B fans!
“Tumre Bhavan Mein" an aarti song sung by Rekha Bhardwaj, Kishori Gowariker, Shraddha Pandit, and Sujata Majumder is a typical aarti song with bells and hummings that makes you expereience a temple and religious atmosphere..
"Genda Phool", is a unique traditional folkish song and is not composed in its pure folk form. It is a song experimented by ARR with synthesized beats and fusion. It doesnt work that much for me but you can listen to it once or twice.
However, my favourite of the album "Dil Gira Dafatan", truly melodious and mesmerising song with guitar strings keeping you enchanted and Ash King pouring his soul into the rendition. This caught my attention the moment I heard it. It is a slow number and when you are falling into your trance, the racing background lifts your spirits up with Chinmayees vocals added at the right time taking you back to the trance. The song has interludes that has world music stamp on it all over, really worth listening to.
Then comes the dance number "Hey Kaala Bander", a cool and fun song. ARR has been experimenting with Arabic styles these days and that adds a nice punch to the song.Karthik, Naresh, and Bony Chakravarthy have supported the song with right vocals. Seems like another experiment similar to Behka with rapping bits but doesnt jump out for me.
There comes another favourite of mine and my most played "Rehna Tu", ARR always picks the right song for his renditions. This song is funky, jazzy and very sensuous. His voice is very mesmerizing and has sung it passion and soul. He is rightly supported by background vocals, the guitars, arabic styling and a classical piece to end the song. A must listen song..
Overall, I will highly recommend the album for the variations ARR has brought into this one album, be it classical hindustani or carnatic, western jazz or funky,be it Chinese, Arabic or traditional prayers, kawwalis or shaayaris!!! It takes a true genius to bring in all these variations in one album... Hats off, Rahman
