A few years back I asked my friend ‘How's Rang De Basanti'. He replied ‘Great. You watch it'. I was expecting a more detailed reply as regards to the story, acting, etc. I watched the movie. If somebody would have asked me the same question after watching Rang De Basanti, I would have given him the same curt answer. Similar is the case with Ghajini. You don't describe Ghajini- you go to a theatre and experience it. Never the less, since I am writing a review I need to describe it.
The movie can be divided into 2 parts- an action movie and a love story. The director has used the concept of flashback extremely well. If he had not done so in the manner in which it was done, the movie would have been a love story upto the interval, and then an action movie. It would have been nerve racking for the viewer to watch 90 minutes of non-stop action.
Ghajini is great because of 2 reasons- one is Aamir Khan and the other is direction. But, without Aamir Khan and his raw insanity to get revenge, Ghajini would not been as it is. He even does well in the in the comedy that the movie has. Look at his expression when he discovers that a magazine has reported that he has an affair with a model whom he has never met. His facial expressions throughout the movie are mind-blowing. He has very few dialogues and has to act through his face and body language- quite a difficult task which he has accomplished wonderfully.
Asin is average, but it needs to be taken into account that it is her debut Hindi movie. She is a little over the top but is definitely not irritating. In fact, you enjoy her role. Jiah Khan has nothing much to do.
By A.R Rehman's standards, the music is not that good. But, please note that I used the words ‘By A.R Rehman's standards'! Guzarish is wonderfully shot. Aamir looks extremely young in Behka…In fact, for the first few seconds I couldn't realize that it was Aamir, and not some other youngster on whom the song was shot. Kaise Mujhe is the best of the lot, which takes you to some other world.
When you generally to see guys like Mithun and sometimes even Sunny Deol hitting 30 odd people one after another without themselves getting injured, you tend to laugh. But, when Aamir does the same thing in this movie, you actually tend to feel that it is possible for a human being to do so! Highly recommended!!!
P.S: Tough the movie does not have an Adult rating some children may find the movie frightening. My 8 year old cousin kept his hands on his ears for a large part of the movie and tried extremely hard to ‘show' that he was not frightened!
