The bulky Nokia N97 is available at leading mobile retailer Univercell at a price of Rs.33,000 and packs a slew of features worth its weight. After having announced in December last year, the wait of 6 months makes us eager to know the pedigree of the new N series phone.
The phone weighs 150 grams and has a TFT screen size of 3.5 inches giving a resolution of 360x640 pixels. It runs on Symbian S60, is touch screen enabled and has a full QWERTY keyboard. It packs a 5 megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss lens and can record videos using VGA at 30 fps. It has a external card slot that can hold 16 GB in addition to the built in 32 GB (total of 48 GB).
The other features include 3G, USB and Bluetooth connectivity, Pocket Office, GPS support, TV out, Wifi, MP3 and MP4 player and FM with RDS. It has standby time of 432 hours, talk time of 9 hours 30 minutes and can play music for 40 hours.
As the phone was released previously in the US, where mobility and quality of the smart phone and its efficiency as an office phone is valued more, the user comments in the review sites do not really reflect the consumer views in India. Based on the US reviews, a rating of 8-8.5 on a scale of 10 has been given. N97 does not try to be the perfect phone having all the features, instead focusing on the market segment for the upmarket executive office-goer, who desires a touchscreen smart phone with QWERTY keypad and good storage space.
