 Location of the hill station Darjeeling
Darjeeling is beautiful hill station in the state of West Bengal and is also a well known UNESCO world Heritage site. Darjeeling is located in the Mahabharat Range or the Lesser Himalaya as it is called and is at an altitude of 2050 meters above sea level. When the British ruled India they had to find out alternate capitals to spend their summer time in a cool climate. Darjeeling was one such place which was taken over by the British from the royal family of Sikkim.
Places to Visit in Darjeeling
Tiger Hill - This Tourist destination is just 11 kilometers from the town and is a must visit for all the tourists coming to Darjeeling. You can have the best of the view of sunrise from over the Kanchenjunga.
Senchal Lake is located near the Tiger Hill and is also called as the Lake of Damp Mist. Domestic water consumptions for the town of Darjeeling is fulfilled by this lake
Mahakal temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is also a budhhist shrine Ghoom Monastery,is located at about 8 km from the town and is the most famous monastery. Mahakal temple of Darjeeling has an image of Maitreya Buddha.
There are many more places to visit in Darjeeling namely Chowrastha, Natural History Museum, Padmaja Naidu Himalayan Zoological park, Himalayan Mountaineering Institute, shrubbery park, Observatory Hill, Darjeeling Rangeet valley passenger Ropeway, Love or Lover's Road, Lloyd's Botanical garden, Tenzing and Gombu Rock etc.
